Fiction – publications and awards

22 Fictions: New Writing from Desperate Literature and Brick Lane Bookshop was published in June 2025 from CHEERIO Publishing, featuring work drawn from over five years of both the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize and the Brick Lane Bookshop Short Story Prize. The anthology includes the author’s short story, Damsons. It is available to order now.

Damsons (short story) was Runner Up in the Desperate Literature Prize 2023 and published in Eleven Stories Desperate Literature Prize Shortlist Selection (2023). It was the top pick of competition judge Mariana Enríquez.

“I love the simplicity with which ‘Damsons’ embeds the Weird, along with
the notion of ancient gods, into the familiar, the everyday. The story’s
quiet details shape a text approaching folk horror, where innocence
conceals an ancient rite brimming with potent menace.”
